OK, I'll have to confess that I do sometimes change them all at once. But that's just because I have to take them off to get my arm in the soundhole to get the pick out when it falls inside. And since they are off I figure I might as well change them. But if I can see the pick I will sometimes just take enough strings off to slide my hand in. You know what I'm talkin bout?
Before you say anything. I know, I know, they sale those sound hole covers. I see alot of players with them so I guess they don't like loosing their picks in there too. I'm going to have to get me one of those someday. duh

Nah, don't need to change no stinkin' strings for that. Just turn it over and shake it 'till it falls out.

Ha Ha! That's a good one. If I could turn the pick over shakin it wouldn't make it fall out and if I could turn it over then I could just pull it out. How dumb do you think I am? Eat Drink

wipe down the guitar with soft cotton or microfiber cloth after each session, clean/polish with Martin or Preservation at every string change

Asking your customers to wipe down their guitars after every session and polish them after every string change seems a bit over the top to me. Why not just ask this person to put on a new set of strings?

Really depends on the intensity of such a setting. Several hours of play can put a lot of sweat on the guitar. Dunno what that does to nitro, but I've seen some french polished guitars that were looking bad, with no much finish left on the right side of the upper bout, almost looking like it went through fire.

Sweat will eat up nitro too. There are signs of it on my J45 where my right arm rest on the lower bout. And it won't buff out. But I don't care , I kind of like a guitar to look like it's been played after a while. But that's just me.

That's why I'm considering writing out a severe questionnaire for potential customers...Answer one question the wrong way, and you're SOL, buddy!!! Lol The last line would read something like; 'Failure to meet these stringent requirements will immediately negate ownership and the instrument will return to daddy’s loving arms. Blatant disregard of said rules might even result in a severe beating.' Ha! I should have been a lawyer...

No guitar for YOU!!!!

Funny story by the way. A buddy of mine who's been in the bandura scene for years longer than I have is a former upholsterer and made soft bandura cases back in the 70's and started making them again now. So, I commission a case from him but want it a bit different from what he's been doing.

He finishes the case and I stop by the other day to pick it up. The lining feels like some sort of abrasive polishing cloth or something like that. This stuff is so bad I bet a poly-e finish wouldn't last a one hour drive in that case. He says to me, he says, I picked it because the foam lining slides easier in there. So I says, I'm a little worried that the lining will scratch up and dull the finish of the instrument - that finish takes a long time and is quite a bit of work. His response: "oh yea, I hadn't thought of that. Looks pretty nice on the outside though eh?" laughing6-hehe laughing6-hehe laughing6-hehe ................. [headinwall]

I don't think it's unreasonable to ask a player to wipe off sweat from strings, back of neck, and body - makes the strings last twice as long and takes maybe 30 seconds before it goes back in the case. Cleaning the guitar at string changes is a little tougher to justify, but assuming you are offering a reasonable finish warranty, you need to protect against the 1% of the playing population that sweats paint stripper. Also addresses the folks that change string once a year....

I agree with you Todd. But the funny thing is you'd think that if someone was buying a nice guitar that they would know to do those things. But I guess that's the point of this discussion. Some don't or some just don't care.

I never change strings... I just build another guitar laughing6-hehe
And for those who don't take care of their guitars I offer a lifetime warranty... The lifetime of the original set of strings [:Y:]
