Your problem was you used binding instead of bounding, you have got to use bounding :)

Cut your own with no run out. It will help a lot.

Tracy,

I think it's mostly leverage. With a soundhole binding, mine being about .090", you have a roughly sguare cross section glued on one edge. With a rosette, you have a piece up 1" wide with the same 1/8" thickness as the only glue joint holding it in place. Since leverage multiplies force, there is a greater chance of things coming unglued.
Now if we install a cross grain spruce soundhole reinforcement like some classical guitars use, it would probably be ok.

ACK! Laurent! Thank you! bliss

I was going to post earlier because i used a large soldering iron for bending strips on my rosette and i thought it might be too weird. Whooo-hooo, i'm not insane!

I was bending walnut and it kept breaking for me. The thing i had to learn was to apply pressure only on the hot side. As soon as i applied pressure on the cool side, ker-snap!

I like the wet paper towel idea. I hadn't tried that, and i did scorch the veneer though it doesn't show obviously.

I feel better.

A big thank you to everyone for their help.

I was finally able to bend the binding this evening.

I broke another full stick of .080" thick binding afer spraying with SSII and letting it sit for about a day and a half before I decided to try and go a little thinner. I sanded another stick of Ebony binding (also sprayed with SSII) down to about .070" and was able to get it using the approx. 4.0" dia. plywood circle to help form the binding. It worked really easily at .070" so I'm thinking of trying to go to around .075 or so on the last stick of Ebony binding and see if I can get that.

But for now.....I finally got it.

Thanks again to everyone for their help.
