I looked at the file and I should be able to help set it up, contact me off forum fred-tellier@cogeco.ca and we should be able to work through it. It may take a few messages back and forth between us but it can be done.

Fred

That's the more expensive version of the controllers I used. The ones I used only have one display line - I'm not sure I need to see the set value as well as the actual value all the time. The wiring up and operation of it is real easy. You'll love the auto-tune feature.

Cheers,
Dave F.

What about the type K and J thermo-probes at the bottom of this page? They are long and thin, and would seem to fit nicley between wood and steel. idunno

I'm about to hook up one of these temp controls and think I may do it in a slightly simpler way.
I'll just hook the thermocouple and AC in and AC out of the controller. If I keep the manual control I already have dialed back [I never need it at higher than 3/4 myself.) and use the timer already built into the manual control box, it seems I just have to plug it into the AC outlet being controlled by the thermocouple.

It seems to me this should work just fine, but I may be overlooking something.

Alan, could you do me a favor, and modify that circuit diagram omitting the timer and the Radio shack relay?

Then I'll be sure I'm hooking it up correctly.

Thanks again for the lead on this gizmo. It's bound to make life simpler.

David....as I recall, Fred may have kept the manual control on his, so you may want to send him a PM for the details. Personally, I would suggest using either a mechanical relay like I did or a solid state relay like some others have done. These heating blankets pull a lot of current and I would rather be safe than sorry.
In any case, hope you get everything set up and it works well for you.

By the way, I had mentioned an issue with my display being pretty far off of the real temp when I first hooked it up. After checking the settings, I discovered that it had been set for a J probe, but I was using a K probe. I changed the setting to K and it fixed that problem.

Thanks for the heads up on the controller -- that is a nice price.

If it comes with a Manual....
There is probably a way in there to adjust the temperature offset so it reads right...

The old ones used to have a small calibration adjustment potentiometer inside the box that gets adjusted to bring the readings closer to "Right" (They are usually a little touchy ... so it is impossible to get them actually all the way *Right* though.)

Most new ones have a Setup adjust setting in the LCD screen where you can program in an Offset.

If not... there is always the "Old Fashioned Way" -- A sticker with the offset written on it to remind you... like "ADD 32" or whatever.

Thanks

John

Ok, on Temperature offsets....

The manual Barry posted has a couple interesting notes....
1st... It reads like they ship the controllers setup to read too high .... so that the Autotune procedure doesn't burn stuff up when it goes way over temp... (Which they always do)

There is a a setting called "PSB" or Input Offset.
Initial as-shipped setting is 0. Settings are -100 - 0.
It moves the Temp readout Lower

This is the setting that gets adjusted to fix initial temperature setup being off....

It reads like if your temp is reading 30F too high, you enter in -30 and it should bring it back
down to the right range.

Thanks

John
