This is a guitar forum and when you allow your politics to get involved , this can happen ego and passion can kill common sense. Religion and politics are best not discussed. To be honest many good luthiers left here for the similar reasons . There is a fine line an admin has to follow to keep a forum under control .
I hope we all learn from this and move on.

This, IMO. I come here to talk guitars. This is a learning place for me. I know I'm not alone. I certainly don't come here to see the members of this forum at each other's throats over a subject that has nothing to do with guitars, with the exception that politics touches everything in our lives. But again, that discussion is not for this forum.
Concerning Padhma. I also did not come here to hear a curmudgeonly fellow bellowing at everyone, particularly the new members, to "cut wood or shut up", "show me your credentials or shut up", state that his record speaks for itself, and imply that this somehow gives him the authority to judge the merits of everyone else's contribution to this forum, nor anything else. There is one authority here, and that is Lance. I don't care how many years someone has been building, how great their work is, etc., they are in no position to tell others that they must prove anything, and have no more authority to require people to do or say anything on this board than anyone else.
He became downright beligerent, and has broken the "no religion" rule here frequently by using the little Eastern religious "Padhma" schtick he's come up with to skirt the rules, act and talk like a child, and get people to accept it by saying " duh, that's just the Padhma." Anyone who claims they haven't seen that has been browsing this forum with their eyes closed. Sure, I could learn a lot from the Padhma, but there are plenty of other places and plenty more pleasant people I can learn from. And I don't have to endure that foolishness to learn it. I don't blame a lot of pros for leaving with that kind of nonsense going on. If something had not changed, I was heading out the door myself. Keep this kind of thing up, and this place is going to end up a ghost town.

I just figured the Padma was having a bad day. Most of his posts I found to be pretty innocuous, and some, where he was showing his work, interesting. That he directed his angst at some unsuspecting newbie is unfortunate.
I take what I can from the forums, and give what I can to them, and try not to offend people, but I'm sure on occasion I have. The written word is easily misunderstood. We all have our good and bad days.

It is amazing how quickly a topic can escalate into religion and personal attack, rightly or wrongly earned.

Padma has nothing to do with any eastern religion I am aware of. I did find one urban dictionary reference that may fit.

A Padma is believed to be someone very conservative and favours very traditional old school views. Someone who wants to live in the past and has not established themselves in the modern world. Believes to think more of themselves than others.

The most common definition is it is a Sanskrit word for lotus.

The thing I like about a forum is one can read or not read. I unfortunately stopped reading the Ivory post after page one.

I do get uncomfortable when a group of the membership is directing personal attacks against other members.

Check out the mythology portion.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Padma_River

Also

http://www.behindthename.com/name/padma

And

http://www.wisdomlib.org/definition/padma/index.html

The name itself definitely has Eastern religious connotations. The lotus, and the name, are inextricably woven into Buddhism. He uses phrases like "the wisdom of the Padma" a lot. He has also played very loosely on Eastern philosophy and ideas in the way a lot of his posts are written. Whether or not you've seen them is another story, but I'm certain I'm not the only one around here who's seen it.

I think this thread may have ran its useful course.
Most everyone that wanted to weight in on it has, now it seems to be
veering off in a weird direction.
I think closing it now would be best for everyone.

Thanks!
