One issue is I think the arguments become stronger or weaker depending on the type of guitar. For me, trying to get a nice, uniform finish applied/buffed out under the floating fingerboard extension of an archtop was a prime motivation to come up with a bolt-on neck, so I could finish neck & body seperately.
