Hey everyone. Just a quick note to say I'm back out of the hospital. It was a long three weeks, but I'm out now. Thanks for all the warm wishes I read in the other thread. Surgery was hard, and I've got a couple broken ribs to show (well along with an 8 inch incision and a couple quarter sized holes in my side).

Doctors are not sure what caused my pneumonia and it was probably a combination of things, but I know that I will forever from here on out be VASTLY more vigilante on dust protection and control. Over the past 13 years I've been lax in this area. I don't know how many times I've had to blow out rosewood boogers, and how many times I worked in a cloud of mahogany dust. Fellas we need to take care of our lungs. Trust me when I say you DO NOT want to go through what I just did. It's been the worst three weeks of my life. So (and I'm talking to myself here too) wear your respirators, use good dust control at the source, and make sure your not breathing in these exotic dust particles.

Thanks again for all the prayers. There are much appreciated.

I am glad you are on the mend John. I have been hospitalized with pneumonia also and can agree that it is 100% no fun. Here's to your health. Image

Hey John, You get better.

When I hear of a luthier and lung / breathing issues, I know why.

Seeing one luthier, forget whom, with the helmet, face shield and filtered air pack, and ear protection was humorous to me, back then. May have been Traugott?

But those who've done this stuff in woodworking environs know it's for real. Truth is, if we have those wood dust boogers, we're just not doing a good job. Guilty as charged too.

I'm glad that you are out of the hospital. Think custom made guitars are expensive, check out those hospital bills! It's nice to know they are there when we have to use them.....

Glad you're home John. bliss That's good advise as it hits home with me, guilty as charged. Don't rush things getting back , as I have in the past, taking a step backwards is the wrong direction. Take care of yourself.

John,

Glad to hear you are on the mend. I feel for you because I have had rib injuries in the past. Rule of thumb is don't breath deep or laugh. It's hard to do but be sure to take the time to heal before you do too much.

Take Care

Philip

Hey John-

I'm glad you are doing ok. I had pneumonia that sent me to the hospital for a week and a half - I know what you went through. Take it easy and let me know if there is anything I can do for you.

Peace-

Very good to hear you're out of the hospital. Anybody who has to spend three weeks hospitalized is not having fun. Hope you're recovery is fast and complete.

Then, back out to that nice new shop with you!

Pat

Glad to hear you're out of the germ factory and doing well John, and I will heed your warnings about wood dust. I've not been as vigilant as I should have been either. I have all the gear, but just don't put it on when I should......there's no excuse for that, it's simply laziness, and I guess, a dash of stupidity too.

"rosewood boogers" :D laughing6-hehe

Cheers,
Dave F.

John glad you are still with us and thanks for the words of warning with the dust. The temptation is always there to forget about the mask. May you heal quickly and fully.

Regards

Craig.

I'm glad you brought up the bright side : badass scars [:Y:] ; I like to think of them as 'suffering trophies'. ;) I'm glad you're on the mend, it was scary hearing that first announcement!
