On my next build, which will be a OM scaled up to 20 inches in length I thought I would build a neck block with an extension for the fretboard, and was wondering if any of you would be kind enough to share any thoughts of ideas on construction and size, I am also considering trying to build a completely bolt on neck as well and would appreciate in opinions on that too...

And on another note...Happy New Years to all...I started on , for me a Hobby, building guitars a year ago when I wanted a 000 size guitar and didn't want to pay the price for a Martin, Taylor , Collins, etc. and thought I would build one instead. What started as a Stew Mac kit, which was a fantastic kit, has now gotten me to , 2 completely built guitars, one other just needing buffing out , two with the boxes closed up, one is a 12 string I am building for a friend, one a Amazon rosewood OM, and another one started on for another friend who has wanted for years to get started building..along the way I have had a blast assembling jigs , adding to my tool collection and the like....so much for not wanting to spend the money!!!!!!

I think Fred mentioned he used to build competition Modlel Aircraft, I did that as well , building Pattern Planes in the 80,s and 90's , and racing planes , QM-40 and quickie's, loved those Nelson engines , and competed in many contests including two Nats..and since I have long gotten away from that sport, this Hobby for me has been a natural extension and keeps me more than busy..

So I thought after spending a year around the OLF I thought I would introduce myself on this New Years day and say thanks to all of you I have taken so much advice from.

Welcome to the OLF, model airplanes and guitars have more in common than most people would think. As too the neck block there is some info in the archive, John Mayes has some info on the double mortise neck on his videos.

Martin uses an extension but this is more for the production floor . It saves time fumbling with a glue cawl . This hasn't proved to be any benefit to avoid neck resets . All it does is add mass . The original neck block was a 1/4 inch thicker than what is used today . You don't want to take away any structure but balance without adding excess mass .
