So a spare small drop of walnut oil dribbled thru my soundhole into the innards of my new mahogany guitar (gonna be delivered to its owner in 2 weeks) and left a slightly bad-looking discolored area. what can I do work it out?

would it be harmful to, say, lightly spread walnut oil all around in there so it's at least homogenous?

The walnut oil will probably sink in quite deeply. You may not be able to sand it out.
Will your label cover the spot? If not, I'd be tempted to lay a coat of a drying oil (Watco or Tung oil) finish on the visible area to blend it in.
Have you tried removing the spot with naptha?

It will not sand out. It's not a deep discoloration, but just enough to be sorta visible and sorta annoying-looking. It definitely doesn't look 'professional.'

Naptha is a great idea. I'll try that next.

I fine felt tip sharpy...smiley face in the drip and a signature. It will be conceived as the makers happy OK mark on the extraordinary great back construction.

Or......I spray a coat of shellac on the inside back and sides before putting on the top. It may not be proper...but this problem wouldn't be a problem right now.

Well, the good news is, it kind of just went away all by itself. apparently walnut oil spilled on bare mahogany appears to discolor it at first, but then weeks later, dries to the point of being nearly invisible.
