Each summer I attend a flamenco course in Sanlucar de Barrameda, Spain. This year, in addition to Gerardo Nunez' guitar class, I also participated in a class on cante accompaniment given by Antonio Carrion, a well known and respected professional guitarist from Sevilla. Here is a picture of Antonio and me.

During one of the classes Antonio unexpectedly asked to borrow my gutar. The following is a sound clip of the ensuing comments and impromptu jam session:

http://waddythomson.com/Clips/Maxs_guitar.mp3

Here's a rough translation of the comments:

Antonio: Your guitar sounds great. Can I borrow it?
Max: Sure.
Antonio: You made this?
Max: Yes.
Antonio: Amazing.
..........................
Antonio: It plays very easily.

Needless to say, this made my week! There was a lot of interest from the other students, but no commissions. At least I feel that I'm on the right track.

Special thanks to Waddy Thompson for hosting the sound clip on his website so I could post it here.

Thanks for listening,
Max

Hi Max
sounds good indeed!
High praise, I'm sure it's well deserved.

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

Wow Max, you must be proud. Great sounding guitar and fantastic guitarist. What I hate the most when a great guitarist plays my guitars is they never leave any of their skills behind for me, did he leave anything for you.

Fred

It's a great feeling when a really good player picks up one of your guitars & doesn't want to give it back! Congrats Max!

Wow, Max! You sure built a lot of notes into that guitar.
And they all sound great.
Congrats,

Steve

Congrats Max !!!! You said when it was completed that you thought it was very 'flamenco' and this just proves it! It was fortunate that you took it with you and had your impressions validated. It sounds great with mucho duende. [:Y:]

Max that guitar sounds fantastic! That Carrion liked it so much is huge considering his regular guitar is a Manuel Reyes. Well done!

Any pics of the instrument for us?

-Jake.

Hi Jake,

I guess you know more than a little about flamenco if you know he plays a Reyes.

Thanks,
Max
