I'm thinking it's time to invest in a spray gun that will be dedicated to musical instruments. I have a pair of Porter Cable mid line guns. They have 1.3MM tips and seem to work pretty well for nitro, which is what I have and most likely continue to spray. The problem is I do a few kitchens a year and use for that also and well, I really don't take very good care of them. After my latest instrument spray I've decided it's time for a dedicated gun that I vow to keep clean. I haven't decided on a gun yet but am wondering what size tip and cap seems to work best for those of you that use nitro? 1.3mm seems to work OK but I'm thinking I might get a little better atomization with a little smaller one.

Thanks for the help,
Danny

You can get by with a tip that's too big (most people do) by not opening the needle all the way. This will cause some wear on the top/nozzle though. I spray nitro, oil varnish, and catalyzed urethane all with a 1.3 tip, and either a Walcom EGO or Sharpe FX 1000.

My little Asturo gun came with 3 tips. .8, 1.0 & 1.2. I have only tried the 1.0 & am very happy with that. When I was figuring out which gun to buy, I checked the archives here (and other places) most folks recommended a 1.0mm tip. Here's a link to the kit I bought.

Another vote for the 1.3 tip here. Like you, I decided to buy a good gun for spraying and after studying many, I went with the Walcom Genesi Geo. It came with the 1.3. I spray nitro and it works beautifully...

I bought mine from Walmec on eBay and saved a lot of money.

Thanks guys. I have been looking at the Walcom guns. I'm sure one of them will work fine. Walmec does seem like the place to buy from Alain.

I like the 1 mm tip on my Sata minijet. Run wide open and great atomization with nitro. It's only my abilities and not the gun that prevent perfect finishes.
