Hi all, thought I should show whats up in the shop. working on 2 at the same time while the one with sunburst is waiting to be finished.
just put bindings on the smaller one, still needs sanding and scraping etc. just cut the channels on the larger one.

The smaller guitar 14.9 lower bout and 12 fretter. it´s of quilted maple that I got from our friend Danny. Thank you soooo much Danny, hope you will approve of how she´s coming along :D . I owe you one my friend.

both are new shapes I am working on do let me know how you like them.
All the best Lars.

Lars: I really like the first shape...Congrats on that, not sure if it's new or not. Also noticed your double X and wonder if you have done this before and if you had success...? For the time being I'll reserve a comment on shape number 2 until we see it with a neck and bridge. Nice work.
Tom

Looking good, Lars! Ain't it great to be building again?

Nice looking double X there. Personally I'd put some taller braces beside the soundhole so it doesn't flop around so much. But I'm still working on my first, so that's only based on reading an intuition :)

Cool slope dread shape. Sort of droopy looking, like a sack of potatoes :D

Hey Lars, I like the little one a lot; how does the box sound when you thump it? I'm curious how the double X might affect it. I just put the box together on a size 0 and it reverberates like a drum. Pretty cool.

The big one seems to have an awful lot of lower bout but like some others have said, I'll reserve judgment until the bridge and neck are on.

They both have some extremely lively taptones. almost worried they will have to much bas !! both also really thinly braced but to make up for it I have a little heavier top plate both are Lutz and are around 0.112 and 0.118" thick. tyhe weight of the box on each is 830grams for the smaller and 870grams for the large, so they are both really light in weight.

the larger one (the sack of potatoes) haha. It will look awesome once bindings are on and some nice sunburst ala´Gibson. :D
About The double X, I have tried Lattice underneath the main X, Larrivee bracing and regular bracing pattern and double X, so far I can say that Lattice makes a real stiff top so it needs to be built with a lighter top to compensate for this, wish in its turn gives the instrument a certain kind of sound !. the Larrivee bracing pattern (used on the larger one) and regular, double X is to me a smaller difference in tone than lattice. like Al Garruth said. it was not much difference in tone when he made 2 guitars with almost identical specs but different bracing patterns. I think it mostly comes down to "fingertip feeling" for how to make your tops with "your" bracings on, how "you" carve them how thin and where etc. in relation to the top thickness- in relation to how it flex etc etc. all this together is what makes a certain guitar sound Larrivee, Bourgouis etc. In the bewginning I felt like "if I make the braces like in that photo it will sound just like that guitar etc, but it is sooo much more to it. and that in the end is "fingertip feeling" for a lackj of a better word. I have not made enough guitar to say I have it, but so far so good haha.
hmm what am I responding to hahahaha laughing6-hehe

Have anyone tried sunburst on a guiltedmaple by first using black stain to pop out the quilt like as done on wavey maple ?

Lars.

Lars:

I admire your work. I am doing some OMs and fooling around with the bracing. I noticed you have omitted the ladder brace at the waist of back, something I was thinking of doing on the smaller bodies. Any thoughts or observed problems/benefits?

Well as is now,the taptone is anourmous on the back, but it might have to do with several other things aswell this is my first small bodied guitar, I was talking to Ervin Somogyi and he said he is using 3 braces on t he back of his small bodied guitars, thats the reason I felt like trying it. This time I have trying alot of other aproaches that before so its hard to say if it better or not yet. I will post and let you know once strings are on. it feelt though as the tap tone is way enhanced with 3 braces as of now. but that also the back is a little more moving god or bad, do know yet :-)
the whole box is extremely light in construction and weights only 817g the larger one weights 890g

Lars,
I like both of them, but I like the small one better. Bet the lattice bracing will make it sound really nice and tight, and give great trebles and mid range. When I saw the bridge patch on the small one, I'm wondering if your bridge pins will drill into the x brace. Looks like a tight fit from the picture, but I hope you will be okay!

Great job, and look forward to hearing and seeing these when they are done!

Hi Lars,

I like the idea of using just 3 braces on the back. I think that I'll try that with a small-body (roughly a 00-size)guitar that's on my bench right now, and see how it works out. If everything else is unchanged, it seems like it would help make the back a little more responsive. I'm always interested in thinking just outside the box a bit :)
