I finally broke down and bought a "Industrial rip fence with resaw guide" for my 14" bandsaw. Clamping a piece of plywood as a fence was just getting tedious to cut bracewood!. It seems to have pieces that I can't see a benefit in having while trying to cut on a bandsaw. idunno

There are no instructions for the fence, terrible pictures on the website and just a small parts list with an exploded diagram showing most (not all) of the parts. Make you wonder why I paid $100 for a fence huh? Laziness and because it matched the bandsaw so I thought productivity would increase from 0 to 1 guitar this year!! ;)

The pieces that don't make sense are the black clamping mechanism on the left hand side (which only tightens against the fence itself) and the long bar. I just don't see the point of them.

Any ideas would be helpful...

The black halfround bar would be a resaw guide.
It allows you to slant the timber to allow for drift angle when folloing a line on the top surface.
The long bar, perhaps an auxillary lower fence to allow you to rip thinner material without the high fence stopping you bringing the guides down low.

Hi. It looks to me like the bar should be attached to the back of the table. This would allow the fence to slide to the left of the table without dropping off.

cheers

If this is anything like my resaw , that black thing is to actually hold the resaw fence and is removed when you revert back to sawing. There should be a matching groove in the higher resaw fence. I will try and get some photos later today .

I will just throw in that for the same $ I am very happy with my Kreg - look it up.

+1 on what everyone said. Return it and get a Kreg, it's way more suitable for guitar building. Your new fence is exactly what came with my saw... I gave it away and upgraded to something else.

Todd, I think the Kreg has a pivot point to adjust for drift. Plus, the guy has old iron... might be fun to dress it up with some bling.

But, hard to beat the price of the plywood fence.

To the OP, search this forum... there are endless discussions of fences and how to resaw. There are a lot of issues to address before you put blade to expensive wood. Fine Woodworking has an excellent "tutorial" on how to set up a plywood fence. The reason I echoed the Kreg was your apparent budget and saw size.
