Also the lacquer thinner and the lacquer came from petroleum too... I guess only thing we can use is shellac, and alcohol came from plants.

There's also ivoroid.

That is plastic based, which as we all know is based on petroleum, which itself is based on (once) living things meaning we can't escape using once living things to build a guitar.

I think that the distinction of concern is between animal- and plant-based products. Most vegetarians don't consider petroleum products to be problematical, as the moral and environmental objections center on the (production of, and) killing of animals for human use.

Ivoroid is actually an almost 'all-plant' product, not petroleum-based. Some of the dyes in ivoroid may use petroleum solvents.
From http://m2w.net/wiki/index.php/Ivoroid

"Ivoroid; a form of celluloid plastic.
Manufacture

Celluloid is created by dissolving short cotton fibers in nitric acid to create nitrocellulose, and adding camphor as a plasticizer. Dyes are usually also added. Celluloid is often colored and patterned; Ivoroid being one such material that was produced as a replacement for Ivory. A notable characteristic of Ivoroid is the grain lines molded into the plastic to replicate the grain lines of real ivory."

Don't they occasionally sell off ivory stocks from animals that have died naturally?
