anyone wanna take a stab at how much a board 48"l by 1/2 by 7" costs? O it had some serious checks in the middle of the board.

Those measurements (with checks) may yield nothing in the way of backs or sides. If it's flat at best one cut to open a bookmatch might be possible. It might yield one 3 piece back (if you are lucky depending on where the checks are) or one set of sides but not both. More likely bridge blanks and head veneers.
I wouldn't pay more than around $100. considering cutting and sanding would cost another $60 or so.
