im using a sycamore purfling next to cocobolo binding. when using CA, do you seal the purfling to stop color bleed from woods such as cocobolo? sealing the top is a given, but i wasnt sure what to expect from the binding/purfling combo. thanks in advance.

thanks, todd. i actually went out and just did some tests on scrap pieces. probably what i should have done in the first place. no problem with the coco bleeding on to the purfling. the cocobolo did bleed on to the top unfortunately. im doing my best to sand/scrape it out, but to no avail. any ideas?

Heath, I always seal the top with shellac before routing and glueing the binding.I find it not only helps to get a cleaner cut but protects the top from bleeding as well.

I was able to bleach a stain from a spruce top with repeated use of peroxide wipes. It took several weeks but completely fixed the problem.

thanks for the advice guys.

i was wondering if i could possibly bleach the stain out, now i know. knowing is half the battle, right?

i did seal the top before installing the purfling. i actually havent installed the binding yet. just the rosette, which is quilted sapele with sycamore and cocobolo purfling. thats what bled on to the top. i installed the rosette just below the surface of the top and then thickness sanded down to the level of the rosette. thats when the color bled. its actually not much and the guitar is going to be given away so its not like its a commission or anything, but i would like to fix it if at all possible.

thanks again.
