Can I get two necks out of this, do you think?

I found a nice honduran mahogany block - 25" x 3.75 x 3.75 in the scraps bin at the local specialty lumber place - right next to a sign that said "all scrap blocks 50% off" - bliss

So, between that and the two two foot sitka sprice scraps (lots of braces there - almost quartered, only a little visible runout), I spent a little over $8 - yay.

I knew there was a good reason to take an early lunch, walk away from that stupid project and go looking for ZOOT.

$8? Thats a nice score. Is the mahogany quartered? What about laminating it?

Yeah - it seems to be pretty well quartered (I'm not so skillful at identifying the grain direction on mahogany - I've been fooled before). I've laminated other necks, and will do so again. On this piece I may just carve a one piece neck, since they're usually so expensive.

Yeah - it was a great score - I've bought sapele blocks there before for very low $$. At minimum, there's a lot of good sapele and mahogany for neck blocks.
