Hi Everyone

Happy New Year.

I've had a Stanley Bedrock 606 plane sitting around for about 30 years in
need of a frog.
Any leads on locating parts?
I have an email into this fellow http://www.antique-used-tools.com/
but thought some of you plane aficionados might have some ideas.

Here's the patient

I'd start with Bob Kaune:

In terms of function, all your frog is missing is the pivot point hole. A good metal worker could fabricate a piece and braze it into place. Scrounge the adjusting lever from another plane and you're in business.

I'd get a copy of Patrick Leach's newsletter. I'd also email him. He's big on Bedrock planes.

Hey Bob,
How did the Bedrock refurb go?
I've got a real soft spot for those old planes.

This is the same part for a shorter plane and should work fine. These old Stanley's are worth restoring.

Hi Everyone

It's been a very informative week, I learned quite a bit so here's your update.
Further research revealed that the plane body was either a type #5 or #6 which makes
it close to 100 years old. The lever cap was throwing me off for a bit as it turns out
to be from a Stanley Transitional #27 1/2. ( most of this info I got from Bob Kaune's
pages....thanks Chas.) The iron and chipbreaker are toast.

I spoke to a few fellows from S. Ont. who indicated that parts for Bedrocks are scarce
in these parts, probably because Canadians were not willing to pay the extra $0.25 to
upgrade from a Bailey to a Bedrock.

I made a good contact with a gentleman in CA who turns out to be one and the same as
Steve mentions above. He is sending me a frog, cap iron, chipbreaker, iron & front knob
for $125 shipping included. I may end up changing out the plane iron in favour of a LV,LN
or a Hock, but wanted an original for measuring purposes.

The bed needs a little straightening and squaring which a local machinist will do for a two/four
(24 good Canadian Beer).

All in all, assuming no unforeseen problems I'm happy!

Thanks for all the help fellas!
