I'm in the "no glove while operating machinery" camp......no exceptions.

I gotta admit, if a level headed gentlemen that had lost a finger in an accident was giving me advise on safely operating a machine.......I think I would listen.

To carry things a bit further, rings should not be worn around rotating machinery. Most are strong enough to severely injure a finger if caught or pull the whole hand into the machine.

Probably this is not what most of us would see as part of the building process: when I prepare a freshly quartered spruce log to fit my bandsaw I remove quite a bit of wood with a 1" chisel and always wear heavy leather gloves for this operation. The hand pretty often would run straight into the 10" splinters...

No gloves for any power tool (what an idea! wow7-eyes ), no gloves for bending with the bending iron either.

I find that wearing gloves can protect the hands when working around sharp metal or splintering wood.Just keep them away from anything that is rotating.Go in any auto assembly plant and you will see most everyone wearing them.Even those operating equiptment . I worked at Ford Motor Company for 34 years and saw lots of people get hurt wearing them. I even got a glove hung up on a car as i was assemblying once which took me for a ride down the line until someone shut the line off which i remember well as i was in a pit headed for a wall at the time. [xx(] I've also seen people shot a screw through ther glove and locked them to the car as well.I think they are a good thing for some operations, but not for getting close to anything that is rotating.
