both of you are right Walnut is a drying oil but a very slow one with a very low viscosity. I to feel I get better results with walnut oil. as for using turns shellac into varnish well the two never become bonded in French polishing. the walnut oil beinng lower viscosity will ride on the surface and be removed when spiriting so it is never part of the cured finish.
