I want to purchase a laminate trimmer mainly to be used in a binding channel routing jig. I'm looking at the DeWalt DW670. Pricewise attractive, and coming with 6mm, 1/4" and 8 mm collets so that I can use a wide variety of routerbits. Can anybody share his experience with this machine and / or is there a specific reason to choose an other brand ?

It is a stong durable motor but when using hand held the cast aluminum base and housing gets quite hot to the touch. It is a bit top heavy and the height adjustment is not very good for ease of precise depth setting. It is desigend to be a contractors work horse.

I have 2 of those and they've been working well for over 4 years now. One is used to cut rosette channels with an adapted SM jig, and the other is fixed in binding machine.
They're a bit noisy compared to the PCs and Craftsman's I have, and the height adjustment on the aluminum base is not super precise. The depth roller adjustment is almost useless by lutherie standards. But they do the job.

I have one, and usually reach for it for rough stuff, like Hesh suggests. But it works well, and I like it...but I use Porter cable for the precise stuff.

I have one and use it one handed sometime for binding with a jig/guide running off the sides. A bit heavy but easy enough to do. AS folks have pointed out depth adjustment not of the best, but if you use it for a while it gets easier. Also use it for rosettes.

Someone had previously mentioned in an earlier thread that refurbished Dewalt laminate trimmers were on sale at Rockler for about $60.
