Hi,
This is my first time of using this bracing for the back and I need to know about how high to go with the bracing at the lap joint..... it is an OM size. Right now there about a 1/2 - 9/16 high.

Thank you,
Jeff

On my OLF-OM plans and in my builds I use 3/4" tall by 1/4" thick back X bracing. I thin to parabolic cross sectional profile and silhouette

1/2" will probably fine.

I'm usually 9/16-5/8 in the lower bout, including the cap, and 1/2 in the upper bout.

Has anyone use scalloped bracing identical to the top on the back ??
As if it was another sound board ??
Any thoughts ??

Gregg

Looking good jeff .. but I dont see the point is adding another X up top thats that closed, and so close to the rim edge (at the cutaway for sure) - that area of the top is now very stiff, which will inhibit the upper back movement and detract from bass response IMO. I would think you could eliminate half the X, and just keep the other angled cross bar (the one that goes away from the cutaway) - I do that all the time on florentines ...

my 2 cents ....

I agree with Tony that with a cutaway the upper x is not as necessary, but I use it anyway. My theory is that it helps keep the back from flattening which may be a contributing factor to the need for neck resets. I haven't heard a lesser bass response in my instruments compared to ones I've ladder braced.
