If you were unsure if light or medium gauge strings would be used on a guitar, would you cut teh nut slots to match the medium gauge strings, the light gauge strings, or cut the slots in the middle somewhere?

If you no exactly what strings you want to use on a guitar, do you prefer using a nut file that exactly matches the string diameter, is slightly larger, or slightly smaller? if you prefer one that exactly matches but that size file isn't available, would you rather use an oversized file or undersized.......or would you rather use whichever size is closest to the desired size?

Head hurt yet?

Narrow slots on the treble strings cause catching and breakage. Go for the medium size slots.
