I came across this thread from 2007 that, in my mind, is one of the best threads I've seen here.

http://www.luthiersforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10102&t=12954&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&hilit=sound+port

While not guitar-related, there was one where a friend of Don Williams had a cat in a contest that a bunch of us were voting for. That one went on forever. I think it had a record number of posts.

Anybody else got a favorite?

Pat

I'll have to think about my personal favorite.. so many to choose from..

But there is a post in the thread you linked by Rick Turner that might be my favorite of all time. It basically said that he puts ports in guitars because he likes them and because his customers like them. What else matters really? :)

I think it would be difficult for me to determine my favorite of all as there are so many. However, one that I found to be informative, entertaining, heated at times , emotional, and tragic all in the same thread of posts, was this one. The tragedy was that ultimately Scott van Linghe left the forum and deleted virtually every piece of good info that he had posted. Over time we lost Grant Goltz, Mario Proulx, Paul Woolson, and several others. What a tragic thing to lose the input of so many masters over a senseless thing such as offense. :( In those days I was simply a lurker. The kinds of discussions that caused so many brilliant minds to decide to cease participation was sad and prevented me from wanting to be an active participant. That said however, things have been on an upward slope with the remainder of many of the old timer OLFers and the addition of several newer contributors. I especially appreciate Michael Payne (another treasure that we nearly lost) and all the other pros and semi pros as well as the experienced amatuers and builders (too many to mention by name so I say ALL ;)) for their continued input. Of all the forums out there (and I've registered with most) I believe this one to still be the greatest. I learn valuable info every day and get to benefit and value the occasional lighthearted exchange. :) I'd like to thank all of you who participate in OLF both old and new. I appreciate and respect you all. Including our dear lady participants who though their active participation is light, it is still a treasure. :D I've rambled on long enough, time to let someone else in. Eat Drink
