I just completed building my 2nd guitar! It was a total blast, what fun! I made plenty of mistakes along the way, but not the same ones when compared to my first build. I know this is a real learning process but what an exciting journey! All that's on my mind now is what I'm going to do on my next build. This is definitely addictive! And the sound is soooooo nice! Here are some pics. Thanks, Dennis

Looks awesome [:Y:]

I'm just about to finish my 2nd guitar as well and I agree with everything you wrote :D
I hope I'll manage to put a finish that looks as nice as yours on mine. What did you use?

cheers, Christian

I'm impressed that you did a cutaway on your second. Very nice binding job! A great looking guitar. Tony

Congratulations, Dennis! It looks great. I like the cutaway shape a lot.

One note, intended as constructive criticism: your heel could be sized down considerably. Hard to tell from the photos, but I wonder if the neck is overly large as well.

Anyway, have a blast playing it!

Nice looking guitar ... adventurous for a second build and very well done. The finish looks excellent, and the cutaway has a nice flowing curve.

Like Todd mentions, I find the size of the heel to be somewhat large - what is the neck attachment ??? Even with bolts and threaded inserts, you dont need anywhere near that much wood in the heel. i use the 3/8 outside diameter 1/4-20 inserts, and can make the heel only about 1- 1.25 inches long at the point quite easily - then taper in a french heel and still have plenty surrounding the insert - one of my former students carves more away than I do and it still works fine.

Maybe something to try on #3 ....

Dennis,
Makes me sick how good looking you guys early guitars are!

Other than choosing to do just another perfect glossy finish, how did you do it? it is beautiful.

Is anyone ever going to do a poor finish, so I won't feel so bad?

Thanks for all the compliments. I did not spray the finish however. ( don't have the equipment nor the experience). I had Greg German (germanguitars.com) spray a UV cured polyester on it for me. He did a great job! Todd and Tony are absolutely correct. I left way too much wood on the neck. Its a little heavy, but still plays and sounds good. Tony, I used a bolt on neck with 3/8 inch, 1/4- 20 inserts. Next one I'll make it a point to cut down on that neck size. Thanks for the great feedback! Dennis

Yep, that's an elegantly simple and beautiful little cutaway. I love it!

I was going to second what Tony Flippo said, but then I notice he seconded his own comment! :)

So let me third the comment: great bravery to do that tight cutaway on your 2nd effort.

And I love the wood you used--can you divulge what the species are? Or, you could make us guess, and the first correct answer could win the guitar as a prize? (Just tying to help.)

Good job,

Steve
