Tom, unfortunately I can't help you on your request for other instruments this wood could be used for. Just wanted to point out that this board will take several years to dry enough for use if it's left 8" thick. May or may not be a big deal depending on when you want to use it.

The description sounds really neat. I've never seen a board from butternut. If you have time I would love to see a pic of a board or two from this tree. Great job salvaging this find!
