Michael,

Thanks for the input, I was hoping that you would join in :)

If you have 40 satisfied customers, that's good enough for me. I'll try the Target
product on a guitar I'm building for my Lovely Wife. Since a guitar is not a piece
of furniture, I suppose the average person is not going to sit a cup of coffee or
a soft drink on it, so there's no worry there. :D I think my biggest concern of all is
the clarity of the finish. If it's truly a clear finish, that would be acceptable to me because
I know waterbornes will never match up to the toughness of Nitro and Cat Poly. Then
again, I know they're tougher than FP, but there's still for me the burn in factor regarding
repairs that is a concern. Have you had to repair any of your KTM-9 finishes? If so,
how did that work out for you?

All that aside, how's the weather in the West Texas homeland these days? ;)

On the issue of Clearity I find KTM9 much clearer than USL. I have not tried any of the newer Target waterborne.

On repairability I have had good sucsess with KTM9 the key I have found is to be first sure you have cleaned the sanding of the repair area well with compressed air and naptha. the a light wipe with DA to pre the respray area. allow to flash off and spray. Now I have to say some time fain witness lines will still be there but most of the time I have been sucsessful KTM 9 IMO seems to burn in much better than USL. Also I have never seen the bluish tint with KTM 9 but have with USL. That said I believe I sprayed too heavy when I used USL so I will not blame USL for that.

Thee weather here is typical spring time for the high desert 50f with 20%rh one day and 80f with 40%rh the next and 60f raining and 100% rh the next

One other thing. years ago I did aa B-B drop ding test from a given elivation on FP, KTM 9 and Nitro. the result showed that the depth of the ding was less on the softer film. I belive this is due to the softer film absorbing more of the impact force plus nitro had more fracture lines, French polish in my opinion won the test but as you may or may not know I am very fond of french polish.

Bill,
There were a few EXCEPTIONAL threads on finishing, and specifically water based finishes in the past. I recall a few that were lengthy and detailed where two former members of the OLF contributed. Mario being one, and Rick Turner the other.

I went searching for the threads with little luck (I found the epoxy pore filling one, which is about 50 posts on the thread). I could not find the waterborne discussions.

I am not sure if this is the case, but my testing shows that the OLF search function does not support searching with names of former members (those no longer signed up). So, when I search for waterborne as a text term, then *Turner as the author, I come up with nothing. Yet if I search for key word only ("waterborne"), I find posts which include ones from Rick Turner. Am I doing something wrong?

Anyway, someone should link a few URL's from those previous conversations to this specific topic. I wasn't able to find the posts, but Rick's knowledge was exceptional in this case ...

When searching using a name, you have to have the exact user name, not just a portion. Tough when some use a part name/number or underscores or spaces.

The Poly vs Nitro topic can be found here. I've not seen one regarding Waterborne specifically, other than the recent ones (within the past few months).
