Anyone ever use fiberglass rods to reinforce necks? Why would carbon fiber be 'so much ' better, for the small amount used? idunno

Its Friday: One top glued up, one more top on the way to be! [clap]

Strength to weight ratio is much higher with CF

plus CF has a higher modulus of rigidity than fiberglass, which means stiffer reinforcement.

In all the fun we are having, we missed the real reason why it's better.

Welcome Greg! Sorry we didn't mean to ignore you...

I seen carbon fiber rods at the plastic shop as well as fiberglass rod... if anyone can spare the cash care to try and use them as go-bar rods?

Hehe my outrigger canoe paddle is CF, light as a feather and pulls good water.

As far as go-bars thats probably a little tricky, because when you push CF past its shear tolerance, it will shatter. Thats why when you see F1 cars wreck, they turn into millions of bits of shattered carbon fiber. Fiberglass on the other hand will flex more, so its probably better suited for go-bars than CF, if you need more pressure just use a larger diameter rod.

That is a very good question!
Perhaps the fiberglass "T" fence posts some use for go bars could be a modern replacement for the sled runners used in "T" bar necks.

I think CF would transfer vibration much better. It seems to when used for fishing rods. So mabey for sound transfer , it might just be better to put in a neck.Thats my thoughts on it.

CF is stiffer, much stiffer, both per weight and per cross-sectional area (steel is stiffer than CF in cross section, but not near by weight). That's why your fishing rod vibrates more (because it's bending less!), and that's why it makes a better neck reinforcement. This is not the place to try and save $15.
