Just wanted to say I thought it was great to see so many change their names from 123hhhcd etc to their real one. nice to know who I am writing etc. But now, as there are more and more "lurkers" coming out, the 123hhhcd are back !

Lance, Brock, askt if everyone could change their handles to real names ! Lance, correct me if I am wrong in the following, you can pm Lance and he´ll change you handle to your real name. Personally I dont see this forum as a "forum" in general, this is more like an internet family "italian family" at times !. and a place of friendship, not just internet, as many in here meet up at meetings etc. Well I am babling !! ... just woke up :D :D :D
So to all, have a great day.

Sincerely Lars. [uncle] [uncle]

Thanks for the reminder Lars!

Yes we did change the permissions for a few weeks and allowed everyone that wanted to change there username.

I didn't do it for them, it would have been way to time consuming.

I do agree though, there are a lot of weird usernames popping up again.
Maybe well try it again in a few months and let all those with "handles" change to names. [:Y:]

I too like the real name. I have used my real name in forums in the past, but then felt strange when there were ZootSuit7 and Zippy5 where I didn't know their real name.

I also agree that this is a great forum. Probably the best by a long shot of any I've participated in. And I've been part of several.

Yes, names please. The OLF is a great community and knowing who you're talking to makes it more like we're all just sitting around and shooting the bull about our common passion for guitars. I like photos too. I just can't decide whether to put up the photo from 30 yrs ago when I looked cool or something that shows the real me. wow7-eyes Just kidding. Anyway, it's hard to pass off photos from the 70's as being current. duh

Guilty! I've regretted not registering with my real name.

One thing that might help, if you registered under a weird name, is to add a signature to your profile, with at least your first name. That gives folks an identity until you can change it.

Thank You Waddy! [:Y:]

For me the biggest reason why I would like to see at least a first name and better yet if it is actually your name is that I want to address you with the utmost respect. I am sure that lots of folks would agree here and would also like to address each other with respect.

If we have a name in your screen name or signature as Waddy suggested it's easy for us to address you more respectfully.

Also, having been here for a while and on other forums too have you ever noticed that folks with screen names such as lovemetender007 often when posting others will not jump in as quickly to lend a hand?

And lastly I spend time every day searching for spammers and we have caught a few even before they spammed us. The screen names that get my attention almost always lack a name and may not even be intelligible.....

Thanks Lars my friend for starting this thread! [:Y:] [clap] [clap] [clap]

Names are so much more polite when responding to a post, we don't need an alias to hide behind.

laughing6-hehe laughing6-hehe laughing6-hehe

You know there is a story that is supposed to be true that Elvis showed up unannounced at the White house one day during the Nixon presidency. He asked to see the president and because of who he was they did indeed check with President Nixon and Nixon wanted to meet Elvis. So they met and during that meeting Elvis was said to have ranted about illegal drugs and the associated dangers to our way of life.

He actually volunteered to be a special narcotics agent for the US government and made this offer directly to Nixon who politely did not say yes or no not wishing to put Elvis off. When Elvis went through the metal detector before they let him in they found a fake "special agent" badge in a leather holder. Elvis was serious and wanted to indeed help his nation.

Anyway I remember reading this somewhere several times now over the years in different publications, not the supermarket check-out line variety..... and perhaps that is where I came up with lovemetender007...... :D

I guess there is no way to enforce username rules?

I too wish folks would use real names. For all the reasons listed above. I used to be against it since people could google my name and find out what I was doing... then I realized that was a good thing. Except on my favorite political websites!! Thats way different.

Hey guys. I've been here for a while and have gotten a lot of great info from some of you fellas. Ever since this "use your real name" thing has been all the rage I try to remember to sign my name on the bottom. Just wondering.... doesn't it seem a little forceful to make people use their real names? Can it be harmful for people to not use them? Personally I don't mind anyone here knowing my name, but I do believe in the principle that if a person feels that not using their real name gives them some kind of privacy they enoy then what's the harm? Maybe I'm just not hip to why it's so important? Are there some kind of scams going on? idunno I've been a member of many forums and the quality of each never depended on said issue. Not stirring the pot mind you. Just wondering what the mind set is about this issue and if I'll need to scan my birth certificate in the near future! :)

So for now there is no way to change it, is that it? meh...

My name is Olivier by the way, and I agree that at least the first name would be nice... Good idea to put it in a Signature, that's what I'll do [:Y:]

Along with real names, your location City, State/Prov. and country would be nice to see in members profiles.

Archtop "John" I did not meen this to be takesn as offensive ! Although, the reason I think its good with real names is simply a polite thing, I meen I would not write a letter to someone ending it with ahole4733 !! or gogetgunkill007. I end it with my name. and as atleast I feel this is a bunch of Buddies, and as I am showing my buddies some really private stuff, like mistakes I´ve made while building etc I feel this forum to be more than just a "chatroom" where you want to be a hidden caracter where one can say whatever without anyone knowing who he is.

Just my point of view.

PS, my birth certificate is 1972-04-20 I´ll keep the last four though. :D . My adress is Egnahemsvagen, 14137 in Stockholm Sweden. ;) ;) :D
Also agree with Fred on his statement. [:Y:]
Sincerely Lars-G-Stahl
