This amazing Les Paul Custom came into the workshop today. I'm in New Zealand and what you're looking at is traditional Maori carving. Don't know who the artist is but it must have taken weeks. This is the original Gibson body - just carved away. I've been a full time luthier for 15 years but I've never seen anything like this before.
I just had to show someone - ha ha.
it was brought in for a new volume pot.

That guitar is truly inspirational and a work of art. The guitar top has been carved like a cameo. It has taken a typical axe and turned it into a war club.Bravo!
