A while ago i posted an easy way to turn a drill press circle cutter into something closely resembling the schnieder gramil sold by lmi.

I modified it again to accept a radiused scraper for consistently scraping the edge fluting on violins. It could easily be adapted for scraping the recurve on archtop guitars and mandolins.

I simply cut a slot with a thin hacksaw, allowing the cut to wander a little bit for a gentle curve. Then i jammed a cut down scraper blade into the curved slot, which eliminates the need for a set screw.

It is quite comfortable to pull around the perimiter, and it makes a time consuming job a little bit more brainless(which is good for people like me).

Thanks' Jordan, I just purchased a general 55 circle cutter after seeing your last post and was thinking of making a small brass holder to insert into the existing cutter slot and hold a small scaper in this manner.Regards,Chris.
