For a while now I have been wanting to know more about some of our OLF members who are established builders/Luthiers and I had an idea to suggest that we ask some of these folks if we could spotlight them and their work in a thread. Perhaps every month we could do one of these threads featuring one specific person.

What I envision is that the spotlighted builder would tell us about how they started, what their specialties may be, share some philosophical beliefs pertaining to instrument building, and of course grace us with many pictures of their instruments, shops, perhaps some customers with their instruments, sound clips, and anything else that they would like to share with us.

I don't want to put anyone on the spot here by suggesting names either but I do have a mental list of some folks that I would love to hear more about and I suspect that many of us do too.

Do you (this is addressed to everyone) think that this would be something that would interest you?

Sure, and if you are going to do pictures then how about thinking about doing a video too. That is if the persons you are spotlighting has a camera. I know there are some that only have dial up but if you could get both for some then that would even be cooler yet.

Thanks folks!

I think that it would probably be a good idea to keep the prospective format(s) wide open so-to-speak so that there are no implied requirements or expectations for some things such as pictures, videos, etc. We would benefit the most from the greatest level of participation so how about letting each spotlighted Luthier have complete control over how they wish to present themselves?

It would be their thread, their individual showcase. Sound like a good idea?

Lance and I have been talking about doing something similar for a while now. I think it is a great idea. I think video would be exceptionally cool, but not required.

I'd be intersted in reading the "spotlight" feature too for inspiration's sake- and so would a lot of lurkers, and, potential customers. Great idea, Hesh!

Great Idea Hesh!!
I know its a luthiers luthier thing to probe the methods of other builders, but many people surf these boards in search of potential builders for upcoming instruments they plan to purchase too - I think that would be great exposure for some of our favourite builders here
and also some much needed exposure for some of the up and coming builders...who may not be overly familiar.... yet,
Im all for it
Cheers
Charlie

Chris bro our hosts Lance and Brock are actively discussing how we can make this happen and do a great job of it too. More to follow.

Yeah, man--not one single dissenting opinion. I say don't spend any more time considering it--just do it! Do the first one with a willing luthier and then the next, and so on, and pretty soon the format will work itself out. EXCELLENT idea!

As good as this idea is, what I'd really like to see is a user friendly biography page. The one in the header is a nice feature, and fun to read, but it would be great to link it to our user controls.

Hesh,
That would be a great series of features, there are so many talented guy here at the OLF that it
could go on for some time at one feature a month.

I look forward to seeing it get started.

Regards,
Kevin Gallagher/Omega Guitars
