I would really like to thank everyone at the forum for your help along the way. I did ask lots of questions with my old account but have been a lurker for the last 6 months or so...it is an invaluable resource and I don't think I could have achieved such a great result without you all...so Thanks very much.

Very nice! That's an oil finish? Could you share your finishing schedule please?

Just one thing, you might want to counter-sink your bridge pin holes.

thanks everyone.

Arbredelaforet,.....I did 2 at full strength. 1st coat was sanded back to wood . I think i sanded that back with 240grit. 2nd i just tried to level.... then I did a 3rd coat of 50/50 DA wash coat. I went to about 1200grit on the wash coat before applying oil.

There was no rhyme or reason to the finish ...I have never done one before so I just went with my gut feeling.? after reading everything I could find on a tru-oil finish.

Alain..........I did about 15 coats of tru-oil.. 24 hrs between coats..and lightly wet sanded with 600grit between coats. once the last one was on i left it for 3 weeks.
Then i started wet sanding with micromesh from 3200 upwards..The last 2 grits though (8000 and 12000) I dry sanded ...no reason other than trying to get it to shine?
Then I buffed by hand using meguiars #9 swirl remover and then #7 polish..?
I also did everything going with the grain..?
I'm happy with it but next time I try a better applicator for the tru-oil ...I used a teeshirt but when i was in the car shop buying the meguiars i saw some things that I might try...

anyway cheers guys,
Grant

Thanks Grant.
For Tru-Oil, I'll try to apply it with the thumb under latex glove.

you don't miss a trick.
I did initially countersink the bridge pin holes.....I thought they we're about the right countersunk size until I started tapering the holes with my reamer to fit the pins and the countersink holes started to disappear..,there is a bit of countersink there..just half the size they should be.
