I plan to finish my current guitar with Tru-Oil ...first go at this.
However, I use a vinyl "best-decals" decal that needs over .007" to sink it. I won't be able to achieve that with Tru-Oil so I was looking into doing the headstock veneer with shellac only. I have not done a finish with shellac before and have not be able to find any info on whether I can get this amount of build.

Can anyone tell me if this is achievable? If so, any estimates on how many coats required, amount of shrinkage, and cure time.

Last resort is to just use waterborne or nitro lacquer.

Thanks. Frank.

You can build shellac as deep as you want. what application methos do you plan to use. It cam be sprayed, brushed padeded and french polished. you will want each session or coat if not padd3ed or french polished to set up before the next application. Don't build too thich at a session.

I will brush it on with a foam brush.
Robbie O'Brien's finishing DVD covers this and FP so I will follow the procedure outlined there.
Thanks. Frank.
