I have been given a huge Silver Leaf Poplar tree, that has a huge crotch in it. When the tree was cut, you could see a vivid curl figure in the wood of the trunk. Now the question. After researching this tree on the net, I found that it is in the willow family! Is that going to be bad news? All of this wood is not dedicated to guitar wood, if in fact any of it is, but I need some thoughts on it since it is kin to willow.

Just to give you an idea, the crotch width is about 55" with limbs in the 24" diam, forming the legs of the crotch.

I'm up at Sergei de Jonge's school at the moment having the time of my life, and Sergei uses Willow for his linings and head/tail blocks. It's pretty good looking stuff.
