I'm currently building a guitar for a nephew and I'm getting the impression that he really wants some fancy inlay that will go up the fretboard. However, I'm not eager to spend days doing an inlay and I've told them such. So they asked me to price out how much a pre-inlaid fretboard would cost. As their budget is limited, does anyone offer non-custom inlaid fretboards?

Pat don't be led into the one's on e-Bay. Others may disagree, but I know a builder who bought a bunch of them about 2003 when I lived in OK (no one on this forum) The inlay looked ok and were pretty, but just not usable. They were warped, had work holes and multiple other problems. I don't know of any particular inlay person who can do this on really limited funds, expensive thing, so if your not wanting to do it, tell them and they can get one later if it is that important. Custom work is custom price. By way this builder who got them is no longer in business.

You can also try John Watkins at www.cncguitarparts.com. Call him as he can supply inlayed boards with many of the classic Martin style position inlays.

Thanks for the referral Lance, but Since Paul B is doing some CNC (I think). He would be the one to go to Vs. me.
I don't have anything sitting here, and I don't do pre-inlayed anything. All my work is completely custom one off. Of course there are plenty of other CNC guys here, and of course you can always get pre-cut fancy stuff (if you don't mind doing the routing yourself) at a great price form Andy DePaul.

The only place I know of that has 'stock' pre-inlaid stuff off the shelf is Bryan England's place. I don't really do lower end one-off stuff, and as others have said maybe John or Paul has something around.

I have most of the stock martin inlays.. The square and diamond is $75 Tree of life $1000 the 45 style snowflake is $155 and the hex is $125.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I spoke to my sister-in-law and told her that she could well be over $1000.00 for what her son has in mind and I think she is reconsidering....
