If you'd searched the archives, you'd find a lot of info, like this
viewtopic.php?f=10101&t=35475&p=466330&hilit=deflection#p466330

Thanks.

I did search the archives but top deflection pulls up hundreds and hundreds of hits. Lots of useful information to be sure.

........search tip: do your first seach for the term (eg "deflection") in "titles only"
Check out David Hurds site (of left-brain luthiery fame..... http://www.ukuleles.com/
Lots of good info, including about "compliance" (or deflection).

Dave, thanks for the tip regarding that http://www.ukuleles.com/ site. There are a LOT of really interesting articles and tips in included there.

And Mark, thanks for pointing me towards the dials on Grizzly's site. That was helpful.

Are you looking for just the gauges or information on jigs? Harbour Freight has various dial gauges that are cheap but OK for the level of measurement needed for top deflections (+- a thou). If you are looking for ideas on jigs, I have a brief page on one for mandolins that could be modified to work for guitars by just building larger.

Here's my rig. Not very elaborate but it's movable. I map out various locations on each top.
I have an another set of feet for it too, allowing me to decrease the span for narrower locations.
