Please welcome OLF member Stephen Boone to our family of sponsors!
Stephen makes Handmade Finger Planes and will be offering them to our community.

Here is a little bit from Stephen,

My name is Stephen Boone. I am a full time classical guitar maker and I enjoy this forum very much. I have been making finger planes on and off for a while now and I have decided to support both my business and the OLF by advertising my mini-planes here on the site. I have also made a video tutorial on how to make your own mini-plane which can be found in the tutorial section of the forum.
-----------

Here is the link to Stephens page, it can also be found in the links section above the forum.

Thanks Stephen and WELCOME!

I bought one of the earliest ones and I still use it on every brace job. Great product at a reasonable price.

I ordered a plane from Stephen last week and got an email from Paypal saying it had shipped the same day.

It came yesterday, mirror sharp, setup, and with a few curls of spruce. Can't wait to use it.

Great little planes! I've got two of them and for the little ones, they are by far the best I own.

Thank you everyone for your warm welcome. I had stopped making these planes for a while about a year ago but the positive feedback like this convinced me to keep going.

I find the most pleasure in making these planes when I know the name of the customer who is buying them as opposed to making a whole bunch of them and shipping them out when orders come in. What I am doing now is making up a bunch of components but not putting things together in the final state until I actually have an order. When I get the email saying I have an order I go upstairs and print out the packing slip. I then verify that I understand the order and I assemble the parts of the plane with the packing slip right there. I am making the plane for that particular customer. I know the name and location of the customer and I am making this particular tool for that particular person. This process makes it all very personal for me. The downside of this is that if I get several orders at a time (as is the case right now) it can take a day or two to fill the orders.

Please know that when you order my tools I am thinking about you as I make them. I think about where you might live and I think about the type of work you may be doing. This process helps me to focus on doing my best job for you.

Thank you again everyone and I hope that I can meet your needs as a tool maker.

Good to see another member becoming a sponsor. Been hearing about the planes for a long time now.
Just a shame you don't ship international, but it's keeping my T.A.S. in check.
Come to think of it, my brother is going to be visiting the States for a few weeks sometime.......
Hmmm

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

Welcome Stephen,
I have been admiring your work from day one!
I am motivated to put in an order, but...no ship to Canada?

Beautiful looking little planes! I will definitely be ordering the pair!
I love when the tools that we use to create art are actually works of art themselves. Awesome.

I enjoy using my plane! It's not only fun to use, it helps me keep from gouging the top, and makes it easier for me to accurately form the brace into the shape I want.

I also enjoyed the 10 minute "highlights of building guitar #24" on Stephen's website. Recommended viewing!

I am working on an all maple version of the mini-plane for international sales. If I feel it is as much of an improvement as I think it will be, I am going to switch to all maple construction for all planes. I will keep everyone informed in this thread.

Thank you to everyone who has ordered mini-planes. I have been quite busy.
