| Post subject: | filling bottom of fretboard slot for nut install? |
I'm attempting to install a LSR roller nut into a Stratocaster neck and, though I've gotten the width correct and parallel, my depth is uneven. Pretty sure I don't want to be filing down the more shallow side and need to figure out how to fill the too-deep side. I'm struggling to Google for "guitar nut slot fill" because all Iget are how-tos related to the nut itself. Any suggestions appreciated... |

What Chris said AND fill should be the same material as the fret board with some attempt to make it invisible. The goal is zero gaps, full surface contact and no trace of a retrofit so maybe Chris consider a router to clean up the channel, matching wood fill, Final Cut with router and then install the nut. You could clean up the channel with chisels and files but you need files made to fit that channel and most people don't have them. |

I have installed a couple of those and a router is definitely a must. I agree with Hesh on the course of action : route a bit further, fill with the same wood, and do a final pass over your fix.
