My uncle has a guitar that has a broken piece of abolone ... suggestion on how to fix ?

I'd leave it.
If you absolutely can't help yourself, I hope you have a dremel router. Set it to the depth, start routing (wear mask). Get out your jeweler's saw and cut a new piece, slightly oversize and disc sand to fit (wear mask). Glue in with epoxy and rosewood dust. Flush out with various files and sand crossgrain till you have gone through the grits. Polish with 0000 steel wool.

Chris is right. Fixing it is really a delicate job. Filling it with CA or epoxy so it does not catch on his fingers is relatively straight forward.

I wonder if filling the gap with shell dust, then doing the superglue and leveling would look better than having the wood show through. It wouldn't be a match, but might look better. Of course, then you would ask how to get the shell dust!

I was trying to decide what could be used as a filler myself . Havent come up with a good choice .

White pearl powder like you add to lacquer for custom paint can work with CA as a filler. It won't match either but doesn't look too awful. Craft stores usually have small vials of pearls.
