Wow! Just noticed this new forum. Glad it is here. Been wanting to ask this: those curly body sections near the neck joint, is that a carved solid piece? How do you finish in the tight spaces? I favor harp guitars, some like the Gibson feature tight body spirals and I was wonder how this was done ( and finished). |

Hey Mike! I just got some Mando books today and the curly bits seem to all be solid. Looks like the curl and neck are a single block. One of the books has a picture of a Knutsen harp-mandolin. Maybe that should be your next project. Mike |

For the mandolin scrolls, I brush a coupla coats of varnish in the slot and after that whatever gets in there from spraying is it. I sand once with small sticks with 120 stuck to them before finishing, and leave it after that. |

One is from Roger Siminoff and the other i don't know but this will give you an idea..mike |
