Post subject:  resonator cones

What is the thickness of resonator cones( not diameter) Has anyone ever successfully carved or turned one out of wood rather than aluminum or cast one from some sort of resin in order to achieve the same volume with a mellower tone? After all, a resonator is essentially a loudspeaker mechanically driven by the strings thru the bridge as a paper loudspeaker is driven magnetically by the voice coil is it not? I am tonally pleased by my first archtop build but still suffer from resonator envy when it comes to sheer acoustic volume.Stringbender

They run from .005 - .008" and while I've seen pictures of wooden ones I've never heard them. Search YouTube for some vids from National Reso-Phonic on spinning them.
For me they're simple and easy enough to buy that I gave up thoughts of spending umpteen dollars and amounts of time trying to make my own, probably inferior versions.
