Well, I guess I've been at this a really long time searching searching searching for that mother load of Brazilian rosewood, and today I found it!
Needless to say it was a crazy story all God's plan that led up to this ...




That last one is about averages about 10 inches wide, an inch and a quarter thick and 7 foot long not a crack in it ..
I'm estimating there must be at least 40 really nice fretboards in there and probably 80 bridge blanks and out of the big board conservatively four guitar sets and tons of binding.

Some absolutely stunning BRW there! How did you find it?

Years ago when I started building the local lumber yard had a whole bunch for $35/bd ft. I bought what I could, but Collings got wind of it and bought the rest up immediately. I still managed to get some good sets out of it, as well as a bunch of Madagascar Rosewood too, in a quality we don't really see today.

Great find!

Makes me think of the old days, around 1972, when I was just starting to get interested in guitars and such. I was in Macbeath Hardwoods in Berkeley looking for wood to replace a bridge on a guitar I was working on. One of the clerks came over to me (an obvious greenhorn) offering help. I had a sample of what I needed, not knowing it was BRW. He took me over to their slabs of BRW and I thought "I'll never need pieces that big in a million years." Little did I know. I walked out happy with the little BRW turning square he suggested.

I hope your nerves survive sawing all that up! So many decisions to be made on layout. You'll have the best smelling shop on earth for a while Clean the dust collector first and save the sawdust. I bet somebody would buy it. Either for the smell, or to make some Brazilian rosefiberboard.

That board in the second post looks like it's made for harp guitars, if it's wide enough. Not that I could afford it... May also be able to fit two regular back patterns, with the defect in the waist cutout of one.

A buddy of mine bought out the last of Martin's Brazillian rosewood stash as well as hundreds of old leftover spruce tops many years ago--he was good friends with Mike Longworth. 10 years ago or so, he asked me to come up to the loft of his shop and see if there was some rosewood or spruce that I wanted, so of course I obliged. While digging through a nice stack of already resawn Brazillian, I ran across a big timber rattler in the stack and suddenly lost all interest! I did get a lot of nice wood from him though--but all found before I found the snake.

Great looking find! Some really nice boards in there.

Believe it or not by 98 year, my old mother was playing canasta and noticed a gentleman reading a book on furniture making and started talking to him and he mentioned he had some wood for sale and she told me oh he has some rosewood but you have plenty of that. You're probably not interested in that I'm like no I am interested in that! so I got together with them and drove five minutes from the independent living facility were my mother, and he lived in went into this big mess of a barn and started going through all these boards and there they were… after he retired. He did some turning, and use the wood for that.

There are certain boards that are perfect for fretboards, and there are certain boards that are perfect for bridge blanks and then there are some boards that are perfect for backs sides so I'm in no hurry to sort it up. Certainly gonna think about it long and hard before I cut it up. I already cut up some bridge blanks and fretboards.
