Here in Hawaii, getting flammable finishes is not easy, or cheap. Shipping can be more than the material. I use Sherwin Williams Nitro, but don't like it all that much. The last time I got Cardinal, the Hazmat shipping on 4 gallons was over $250.00. Stew-Mac is one of the few that will ship lacquer to Hawaii. Interested in hearing a report on how Color Tone Nitro works. Thanks, Bob

In the rattle cans? I used it to finish a complete Tele once and it worked just fine. I did a burst on it too. I often use it for touch ups like for example head stock repair and so on. IMO it works just fine.

Thanks JF. Not the rattle cans. The quart metal cans. HVLP spraying.

I've used Colortone over the years (both rattle cans and spray) and have been very happy with it. I follow their finishing schedule and recommendations for temperature and humidity, the only time I had any problems was pretty serious blushing but I was spraying in fairly cold and humid conditions. I have used Cardinal and Behlen also, with no issues.

The one reason that I'm commenting is that another guitar building forum has a subforum specifically about finishing and they have a resident "professional finisher" who can't say anything good about Colortone. When pressed he said SM adds naphtha to their lacquer which makes it dry much more slowly which is why the recommend 10-14 days before buffing. I'm in no hurry.

Agreed. No hurry. Lacquer has to sit a month before buffing IMO. The results are well worth the wait.
