Hiya,

Just curious on your thoughts about choice of soundboard for a tenor guitar?

I usually lean towards Swiss spruce, just because I like the clarity I think its produces over say Sitka. But i'm assuming the early Gibsons circa 1930 were all red spruce and they are some fine sounding tenors, if a little rough around the edges.

The point being I guess is that with considerably less force on the soundboard, strength isn't quite such a factor.

I recently built a Tenor using Lutz spruce, thinned to about .110"
Clarity is excellent, and the volume is amazingly....loud.
I went for about 24 lbs of pull using a string gauge calculator, using CGDA tuning, per the customer's request.

I built one a couple years ago using Red Spruce and I absolutely love the thing.
