Post subject:  Re: String Instrument Craftsman - Do you have any?

Just got more files on memory sticks from Carl Dickinson - THANK YOU, CARL. We now have all known issues of SIC except for #4.

Instead of scans of double pages like the first 5 issues I sent, Carl went to the trouble of scanning each individual page and placing them in a file. Seems wiser to me, and probably easier to print out later.

Who wants to start getting them? Dick Boak has scanned #1 through #10 so far. He is scanning each page individually, and going to the trouble to remove the 3 ring binder holes, the staples and any stains left by the staples (they were copper, not steel). Just thought you'd like to know.

There is a lot of stuff in there I had forgotten about... Seems I have some catching up to do myself.

I have a copy of # 4. I think I can scan and send it, or if you'd rather I can mail a hard copy where ever you'd like it sent. I have about a dozen other volumes If you have missing pages etc.

Will contact you via pm.

Thanks to Steve's efforts, we now have Issue #4 scanned into PDF's. Steve scanned each page so that you can scroll through the entire newsletter - one page after another. I like it! I will start sending out in groups soon. I don't think anyone wants to get all the remaining 9 files all at once in their inbox...

Guys.... Having a slight glitch sending Carl's copies of SIC. Please be patient, and you will be rewarded with manna from heaven. Will send Steve's #4 to all who've signed up... This evening.

Okay - at this point I have a complete set of SIC issues in PDF format thanks to OLF members Carl Dickinson and Steve G. And I just got Dick Boak's 14 issues scanned into PDF via email (in a very cleaned up form). So I am now wealthy when it comes to the subject of SIC.

Before continuing, I'd like to know how everyone is using these files. Are you reading them on your monitor, or printing them out? Is anyone having any trouble reading or printing them?

I'd like to try sending some of Carl's files and some of Dick's files and see which ones work best before completing the email process. Maybe there is a preference for one or the other? Some might like Carl's, and some Dick's.

Please let me know.

I imported the pdf files into iBooks and read them on the screen (my house doesn’t need anymore paper). Some of the files didn’t have the pages in sequence,, but I was able to work around that. I found the content interesting and even learned some things. I appreciate the bunch of you retrieving this resource for us.

I’m reading them on a screen.

They’re a great resource. Thanks to everyone involved in this.

Reading on a tablet but may switch over to a larger screen. I remember subscribing to this many years ago. I think I received 3 issues before they went defunct. Paid for a two year subscription! Thanks you so much for providing these.

No one has tried printing them out yet?

BTW, there are guys lining up to get these over on the Seymour Duncan Forum.... But I think OLF's should get theirs first.

I'm reading them on-screen too. The issue you sent that had pages in the right order was much easier to read. Many of the other issues were upside down.

Okay, good info. Thanks, Barry. Anyone else?

Hi Chris, I received issues #3, #11, and #13 in your first email. Issues 11 and 13 are upside down and the pages are in random order. Issue 3 was right side up but random page order as well. All of those issues show up in double page format (I'm opening the PDFs on my iPhone). Issue #4 in your second email came in full page format with all pages in correct order. Not a big deal to turn my screen upside down to read but the small format and page hunting make the first batch a little harder to navigate. Issue #4 is a much easier format to read.

Thanks for offering this up to all of us...will you be sending out the full collection in the cleaned up format?

Hi Chris - I read them in a pdf reader - no problem navigating around to read an entire article. Many magazines have that "continued on page X," so it is no big deal.

ATTENTION: Dick Boak sent me a link to ALL 14 downloadable issues of SIC, which you can do for free between now and next Wednesday. Print them out, save them to the cloud or your internet device. ENJOY!

PM me your internet address if you want the link, I'll be happy to share it with you.

It's been a group effort - John Hall, Carl Dickinson, and others. I am very gratified that this came to fruition in a matter of weeks after I had pursued it for so long. I feel like SIC has been resurrected to new life after moldering forgotten in an unmarked grave. My sincere thanks to all who helped get this ball rolling, and I hope that those who now have the info in those files uses it wisely - and shares it with others!

Thanks to Chris and all involved. Looking at the issues is a fun blast from the past. And you are well represented in the magazines - I saw at least three articles by you and at least one interview - very interesting, particularly the What's Cooking article.
