A couple of examples of great customer service I've run into lately.

Though these folks have never appeared on my radar before, I was looking for oversized nut blanks and discovered them at guitarpartsandmore.com. Owner Dave Warther discovered that the shipping cost was almost the same as the cost of the nuts, and with no prompting on my part, threw in a few more blanks to make the hit a little easier to take.

And yesterday, I was on the phone to Stewmac, ordering a few things including their set of nut drivers. Midway through the day, I open my previous order from Stewmac, and lo and behold, there are the set of nut drivers that I'd already ordered (Note to kids: don't ever get old :-)

I call back to change my order, and with Stewmac's typical efficiency, the order has already gone out. I ask about the procedure for returning an order, and the lovely woman on the phone tells me not to worry. They'll credit my account, and surely I know someone who can use a set of nut drivers.

We often hear stories about crappy service. I think it's only fair that we flag the great service stories as well.

And who needs a set of Stewmac nut drivers? First one to claim them gets them. You just have to pay shipping from Canada.

I'm cool with that. Shipping to 67204?

I have no idea. I haven't got them yet. But I'm happy to repackage them, ship them, and then once you get them, you send me the money for the postage.

If you're good with those terms Chris, they're yours.

Good story Steve. We need a whole lot more positive people these days.

Lee Valley gets top marks, as well. I had bought a bunch of hardware, and got a call from them telling me that some of what I bought had been mislabeled, and weren't what I needed, and that replacements had already been shipped.

The service that I have received from the many suppliers that I trade with sometime amazes me.

I recently ordered an item from Stew Mac, and they mistakenly sent me a set of needle files. I later checked and saw the product numbers were almost the same. when I called, I was told to keep the files, and that they would get the proper item to me asap, which they did. Great customer service? Indeed.

I had almost the same exact thing happen to me with a set of tuners. I wonder how often this happens to them? Time to hire a new picker I think. :D

I had a similar experience with Stew-Mac yesterday, too. I finally placed an order I've been socking funds away for, then decided to add more to it two hours later. I called to see if they'd combine the orders and change to two-day shipping. No problem. The first order had already been boxed up, but they made it happen while I waited on the line.

I've had dealings with many of the OLF sponsors and have experienced uniformly stellar service from each of them. The latest quality interaction was with Hibdon Hardwoods. Nice people, good wood, great customer support. [:Y:] [:Y:] [:Y:]

Stewmacs service is the best. And like a few other people said, I've had the same experience of getting the wrong item, and being told to keep it while they overnight the correct one. In fact, it's happened to me twice in the past year alone.
I also heard of someone getting a free buffing arbor from them a few years back.
