I would like to know the scientific name and general location of harvest. "White Cedar" could be used to name any number of species. Here in the US I know of two species we call White Cedar, and there may be more. If you are on a different continent, the term could be used for some other species from nearer to you. But, it certainly could not hurt to try some. I have been looking for a source in the US for top wood from Atlantic White Cedar.

"i got a good source for white cedar back and sides and neck blanks."

The white cedar I am familiar with seems a little soft for backs and sides, and even though stiff for it's weight - being light weight -I'm not sure it would make a very good neck.

It might make an interesting soundboard if properly cut (speculation).

Port Orford Cedar is not cedar. I believe it's Lawson's Cypress.
Very good top wood and smells nice too.

Yes, it is true.....Port Orford Cedar is being used for back & sides in flamenco guitars. It's also being used for tops and necks.

Don't know about white cedar, but I have used Port Orford cedar on three necks. So far I love it. Have been thinking it would be fun to use it for the top, back and sides as well. Would look pretty amazing with ebony bindings, bridge and fingerboard.

So, Raoul, do you know what species your white cedar is? I'm curious about it.

Cheers,
Miguel.

Both atlantic white cedar and northern white cedar have about the same hardness and dent resistance as western red cedar. It could make a very light weight guitar.
