Hope you all are having a great fall! I have a client pretty interested in a set of Tiger Myrtle for his guitar. I dont have any sets and it seems like all the usuals are out of stock. Iam looking for a special high figure set. Wanted to put out a feeler to see if any one has something they would be willing to sell.

bonjour joel. I noticed that mya moe ukes in washington uses tiger myrtle for ukes . You might try asking gordon where to find a supplier

Distinctive Timbers also sell Tiger Myrtle on Ebay. I have got some really nice wood from them, so I can recommend them, but they are local for me. Tiger Myrtle is a rare wood, it only occurs in old growth Myrtle trees that have been infected with a fungus, so has always been difficult to get. For a special high figure set, good luck.

There is Myrtle from Oregon USA and Myrtle from Tasmania Australia, two completely different species. The pictures on the Stansell Guitars and mya moe ukes web sites are obviously the USA version of Myrtle. "Tiger Myrtle" usually refers to the Myrtle from Tasmania Australia that has been infected a fungus. Which "Myrtle" are you looking for?

I think it is implied in other posts, but you ought to make sure if your client wants USA or Australian myrtle. The term "tiger" referring to wood often means "curly" or "fiddle back". Personally, I like the US curly Myrtle.

Me thinks our bro Joel knows exactly what he's correctly asking for, Tiger Myrtle.

Hey everyone

Thanks for the help! Will sniff out a few of the leads. We are after Tiger Myrtle from Australia. I have heard the American myrtle referred to as Oregon and bay laurel but not tiger. I have a few nice sets of Oregon myrtle.

Worth dropping a line to Tim Spittle at [url]australiantonewoods.com[/url]. Tim has some Tiger myrtle currently listed on the site, but from personal experience I know he often has other stock tucked away. He's a great bloke to deal with.

+1 recommendation for Tim Spittle as a source for woods from down here in Australia.
Tiger Myrtle can make a really beautiful instrument. Looks great with black accents like ebony binding and such. Good luck in your search.
