I have never installed a pick guard & plan to use one of LMI's Tor-tis on my latest. Two questions:
1. How long do you wait after completing the french polish on the top before installing?
2. Do you any water with a touch of detergent when installing? Or install dry?

While I haven't done this personally, I can say for sure that you should let whatever finish you use dry fully before you put a pickguard on anything, regardless if it's french polish or not.

My other thought is that I would simply use an adhesive backed pickguard and stick it to it dry, is it a clear pickguard? that's the only situation I can think of where you'd want to add water to the top to ensure a solid adhesion.

Steve,

I'd wait 30 days minimum for shellac.
