The CA thread got me thinking of something I have been meaning to ask for a while. There are certain situations where I choose to use PVA glue (usually when it is going to take me too long to clamp up). One of these operations is when I make my laminated linings. When I use PVA, I reach for TiteBond original because it has a long track record with luthiers and I feel I can trust it. The only drawback for me is the yellow staining I get when I use very light colored wood for my linings and reinforcements. I never seem to be able to get all the squeeze out cleaned up and end up with some surprises. To be fair, this is a pretty minor thing. . . I sometimes think about switching to a white glue but love that I can get TB locally and not have to order it from LMI. I think I remember reading that some have considered Gorilla brand white (not the polyurethane glue they are most famous for) an acceptable stand in for LMI white. Does anyone have any experience with it or care to weigh in?

We use Franklin Titebond Translucent and the new formula Elmer's Glue all. Actually the Elmer's is the most transparent (left) -- that's OTB on the right. Dry samples on white Teflon

Ha! I love this place. I ask a question and immediately get not only an answer but a photo of various glues dried on a white surface.

I'm assuming since you are using these in your setting, you are comfortable with their reliability for our purposes. I'd love to hear more opinion on these two glues as well as Gorilla white and any other white for that matter. It's nice to have options.

We use Elmer's rather than Duco for rosettes when the fit is a little loose. And the Translucent has nice grab and it is good for linings. Both are used to assemble a few different tools we sell.
